Higgins to remain in hospital with blood pressure problem

President Michal D. Higgins is still in a Dublin hospital so that medical professionals may keep an eye on his blood pressure.

President Higgins, 82, was taken from Áras an Uachtaráin to the hospital on Thursday night for “precautionary tests” after expressing discomfort.

He spent the night in the hospital on Thursday and will now spend the weekend there, reports The Mirror.

In order to check his blood pressure, President Higgins will now spend the weekend in the hospital. Early next week is anticipated to see his return to Áras an Uachtaráin.

It is acknowledged that his hospital stay is a preventive measure.

A statement issued on Friday evening read: “President Michael D. Higgins has thanked the public for the outpouring of well wishes which he has received since his admission to St James’s Hospital yesterday evening and would like to express his deep appreciation to all those who have sent messages to him, as well as to the medical staff for their continuing care,” reports The Mirror.
