There will be a historic occasion for Irish sport next week as Cork’s Rob Heffernan will receive the first ever Olympic medal to be presented on Irish soil.
Heffernan who finished fourth in the walking race at the London Olympics in 2012, will receive the bronze medal four years after the games, after the Russian gold medal winner, Sergey Kirdyapkin, was disqualified for doping.
It is understood Heffernan will recieve his medal at a presentation in Cork City Hall next Thursday.
