A holidaymaker has died while vacationing in Crete after reportedly becoming unwell while lying on a sun lounger, reports The Mirror.
The 74-yr-old British man was discovered unconscious around midday on Sunday at Stalis Beach, a popular tourist destination on the Greek island.
Worried beach visitors noticed him and contacted emergency services, according to Mirror UK, reports The Mirror.
Although paramedics from the Hellenic National Center for Emergency Care (EKAB) responded quickly, he was sadly declared dead at the scene.
Reports indicate the man had gone for a swim shortly before returning to his lounger and had complained of a “strong feeling” of illness shortly before he passed away, reports The Mirror.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death, and an autopsy is currently being carried out, as reported by local outlet Cretapost.gr.
His passing comes amid a string of recent tragedies involving British tourists overseas, reports The Mirror.
Only weeks earlier, a 73-year-old man was found unresponsive on a beach in Agia Paraskevi on the island of Skiathos. Despite a doctor’s 40-minute effort to resuscitate him, he could not be saved.
On June 12, another British man, aged 68, died after collapsing while swimming near Lindos beach in Rhodes. He was taken to a local health centre by the Central Port Authority, where he was later pronounced dead, reports The Mirror.
In Spain, a separate case saw a British tourist die in an apparent drowning after getting into trouble during a late-night swim at the well-known Fuengirola resort. Bystanders pulled him from the water and called emergency responders, but they were unable to save him.
Additionally in Spain, two tourists have died in unrelated falls within the last two weeks, reports The Mirror.
