Holohan not happy: Controversy appears to have forced Tony Holohan to turn down huge paying job and will retire this summer

Holohan says that he didn’t want to see the controversy continuing, in relation to the government being forced to pay €187,000 for his massive new job in Trinity College.

Along with that, Holohan was due to effectively lead the new version of NPHET.

The entire matter has been handled absolutely horrendously, with the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly in very hot water over the debacle.

This new group is essentially the same as the old National Public Health Emergency Team by another name, as it fulfils the same function with mostly the same people, and, presumably, the same wages, but Holohan will no longer be taking part in it.

It has now become clear that Holohan will not take a second salary on top of his new €187,000 role as Trinity Professor.

It’s understood that he plans on retiring from public life in July and will not be seeking any big public jobs at this time.
