Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan will meet with the government later today to discuss the effects of the new omicron variant.
It’s understood that NPHET has been monitoring the situation in South Africa and around Europe since the discovery of the new variant late last week.
NPHET will initially meet this morning to discuss their findings. It’s understood that their findings will be conveyed Micheal Martin, Leo Varadkar and Eamon Ryan from Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan later today.
We won’t be told about new restrictions until Tuesday at the earliest.
