An inquest heard that a homeless man who jumped into the River Liffey to save a stranger who was attempting suicide had done “a very courageous and heroic act,” reports Breaking News.

James Nicholl (41), a former soldier and resident of The Curragh, County Kildare, passed away early on April 8, 2023, while trying to assist a second man who was having trouble in the water close to Grattan Bridge at Capel Street. He was last seen at 1.30 am.

Along with his partner, Donna Walker, Mr Nicholl was renting a temporary flat at the Paramount Hotel in Temple Bar when he happened upon a man who was upset over his buddy leaping in the river, reports Breaking News.

After many hours, the bodies of both men were found in the Liffey.

Modestas Banys (age 21), a native of Monaghan, who was studying in Dublin, was the other fatality. His parents were Lithuanian and had lived in Garynisk Square in Tallaght, reports Breaking News.
