Tough guy Harris will visit Downing Street to meet new UK PM on July 17th




The Taoiseach further stated that “legacy issues” in Northern Ireland and “the full operation of North-South and East-West Good Friday Agreement institutions” were discussed by the two leaders during their phone conversation, reports RTE.

Speaking to Mr. Starmer, he expressed his approval of Hilary Benn’s nomination as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and stated that “regular engagement” would be necessary for a “meaningful reset” of ties between the two nations.

Micheál Martin, Tánaiste and Minister of Foreign Affairs, earlier discussed future plans between Ireland and its closest neighbour with David Lammy, the newly appointed foreign secretary of the United Kingdom, reports RTE.

The Tánaiste and Mr. Lammy concurred, according to a statement, that the Westminster election results present an opportunity to mend bridges between the two countries.
