The Bru Aimsir hostel, which was set up on a temporary basis to accommodate 100 homeless people during the winter, is due to close down soon. The likely result is that 100 people will be left with nowhere to go.
The Peter McVerry Trust is now calling for an postponement of the closure.
The organization’s CEO, Pat Doyle, has said that “Even if it can’t stay open forever (there should be) an orderly and planned wind-down of the service. That would allow to look at other options for provision and look at other facilities.
“But to take out 100 beds overnight now – the impact of that will be fully borne by homeless people.”
