Twelve people have tragically been killed, including a baby, and four more are critically injured after an apartment block fire that swept through several floors of the building in the Bronx borough of New York City last night.
The fire started at around 11:30pm Irish time and quickly spread.
It started on the first floor of the brick building and quickly spread upstairs, city Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigrotold reporters at a news conference with the mayor. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
President Trump said his and the country’s thoughts and prayers are with the victims.
