Horrifying: Girl, 5, sustains burns to her face and shoulder after stepmother sets her on fire to punish her for yelling

A stepmother has been charged police after she admitted to pouring rubbing alcohol on her 5-year-old stepdaughter’s face and then setting her on fire.

According to FOX 4, the woman Dalia Jimenez, 20, was charged this week after she confessed to pouring the liquid on the unnamed girl and then setting her alight at their Grand Prairie home in Texas, on May 13th last.

Although Mrs Jimenez, previously claimed that her stepdaughter sustained the injuries whilst trying to light a candle, she reportedly confessed to commiting the act in order to punish the girl for yelling – after police found inconsistencies in her story.

It is believed that the young girl sustained serious burn injuries to both sides of her face as well as her shoulder.

Police investigating the incident say the case has been one of the most horrific cases they have ever investigated and revealed that the young girl and her younger sibling have since been removed from the home by child protection services.

According to Star Telegram the girl’s father wasn’t at home when the incident occurred, but police say he hasn’t been charged in connection with the case.

Mrs Jimenez is scheduled to appear before court on August 4th.
