A 15-year-old schoolboy in the UK is celebrating a win in the Fortnite World Cup which netted him a prize of almost £1,000,000.

According to the Daily Mail, Jaden Ashman took part in the competition in New York together with his gaming partner when they shared a prize fund of £1,800,000, taking home the massive amount of £900,000 each.

Jaden’s mother told the Daily Mail that as soon as Jaden returned home to Essex, he started playing the game again. She also said that he won’t receive the money he’s won for some months so will have some time to decide how to spend it. While he stands to make more money from sponsorship deals, his mother is said to be determined that he finishes his education.

40 million gamers are said to have taken part in the World Cup and 100 took part in the final. Jaden’s win will undoubtedly encourage others to take up the game which is already one of the most popular in the world.

However, it has also attracted considerable criticism from parents and experts who have voiced concerns about the violence involved in the game, and the fact that many gamers play the game for many hours, running the risk of becoming addicted.
