A 16 year old teenager has appeared in court after he was charged with the rape and murder of six-old-year Alesha McPhail.
The teenager who cannot be named for legal reasons was charged by police on Thursday and appeared before a court this morning.
Police investigating the horrific crime say little Alesha was the victim of a violent crime after her body was discovered on the grounds of an abandoned hotel in Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute, on Monday.
The young girl was tragically found dead after police launched an investigation after she went missing from her grandmother’s home on Sunday night/Monday morning.
Although police have not confirmed how the young girl was murdered, they have confirmed that results of a post-mortem examination have revealed that Alesha was the victim of a sexual assault.
