Hospitality nightmare due to government’s lockdown measures – ‘Half of Ireland’s restaurants’ facing permanent closure, says restaurant association

The hospitality sector is facing an absolute nightmare with the vast majority of restaurants and pubs in serious trouble as a direct result of the government’s inefficiency and draconian lockdown restrictions.

‘Half of Ireland’s restaurants’ are facing permanent closure, according to a restaurant association.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) said that many establishments will not recover after the lockdown is lifted, and is calling for the current VAT rates of 9% to remain in place until at least 2025.

The association is also calling for a waiver of commercial rates until the end of 2021 at least.

What do you think? Should hospitality be allowed to reopen?
