The Courtenay Lodge hotel in the Co. Limerick town of Newcastle West has closed its doors for the last time, leaving both staff and the town itself in shock.
The 39-room hotel ceased trading last Friday, with the loss of 30 full- and part-time jobs.
Many locals have expressed their sadness and dismay at the news. The Courtenay Lodge was the only hotel in Newcastle West.
