The ‘House the Irish First’ protestors are continuing to stage daily demonstrations outside a housing development in Mulhuddart in Dublin 15 and building of the 65 social housing apartments has now been halted.

The protest was organised via Facebook by the “House the Irish First” group that was established after it emerged that only a small minority of social housing units in Dublin 15 were being allocated for Irish families while others have alleged that Irish families are waiting longer for housing that non-national families.

This charge is denied by Fingal County Council.

Citizens, most of whom are women, taking part in the daily protests at the housing development have also enjoyed the support local businesses in Mulhuddart who have offered support to the House the Irish First rallies in an expression of community spirit and solidarity.

The ongoing protests have of yet received no public support from any political party that fielded candidates in the constituency and organisers have emphasised the fact that they are A-political and simply seeking fairer treatment for locals and Irish citizens in general in relation to social housing.

Representatives had approached then local TD Ruth Coppinger of People Before Profit for support but were left wanting and they have alleged that some have branded them racist as they are protesting for the rights of indigenous Irish people.
