Families are facing the prospect of having to pay €400 more for electricity and heating this winter. Rising energy costs will be a huge shock to many as winter nights approach.
The crisis deepened when Energia announced the third increase for its 200,000 residential customers.
Rapidly rising costs led the government to reduce taxes on electricity, gas, and heating oil. But the government does not plan to take further steps to relieve families from rising energy prices, despite cuts in energy taxes and new subsidies in other countries.
Many people are blaming Eamon Ryan and his Green party’s politics for the rising prices.
