A Swedish court has fined climate activist Greta Thunberg for disobeying police during an environmental protest at an oil plant last month, reports Breaking News.
Ms Thunberg, 20, admitted to the incident but denied wrongdoing, saying the fight against the fossil fuel industry was a form of self-defense against the existential and global threat of the climate crisis.
“We cannot save the world by playing by the rules,” she told reporters after hearing the verdict, vowing to “definitely not” back down, reports Breaking News.
The court rejected her arguments and fined her 2,500 kronor (216 euros).
Ms Thunberg and several other youth activists from the Future Reclaim the Future movement were accused of refusing to disperse police after blocking access to an oil terminal in Malmö, southern Sweden, on June 19.
The verdict seemed to have little effect on the young man’s determination – just hours later Ms Thunberg and Future Reclaim the Future activists returned to the oil terminal for another roadblock, reports Breaking News.
