Man jailed for fatal stabbing over row involving stolen scooter and €100 debt

A 28-year-old man who stabbed his friend during a brawl over a stolen scooter and a €100 loan has been sentenced to nine years in prison, reports RTE.

John Titiloye of McWilliam Crescent, Tallaght, Dublin, was convicted of murdering his friend Ademol Giwa in Tallaght almost two years ago.

He was found not guilty of murder after the jury heard that he had retreated from the scene but returned with a knife after attacking his father.

Judge Paul McDermott said it was “hard to believe such a paltry sum” could lead to such violence and was not convinced that Butterfly understood the enormity of his crime.

25-year-old Giwa, nicknamed “Dizzy”, was a friend of Titiloy.

They grew up on the same street, played football and went to school together.

Another man, Samson Fayemi, owed Titiloy €100 and the debt caused tension, the court said.

On August 9, 2021, the day before the fatal stabbing, Titiloy and a group of men confronted Mr Fayemi and took his scooter and keys.

The following evening, he and Mr. Giwa visited Titiloy’s home in McWilliam Crescent, where a row broke out involving Titiloy’s father, Anthony, reports RTE.

Titiloy was retreating from the scene but was heard shouting “my dad, not my dad” before returning and stabbing Mr. Giwa.

He was pronounced dead later in the evening at the hospital.

In victim impact statements, Mr Giwa’s family described the pain of losing their eldest son and described his killer as “wicked” and “evil”, reports RTE.
