The Labour Party leader Brendan Howlin has seemingly been given a vote of confidence after 16 party members rebuffed claims that the party is in need of a change in terms of leadership.

Mr Howlin who came under increased pressure this week has been given somewhat of a reprieve after a majority party members backed him to remain as leader.

The latest developments which will surely be welcomed by Mr Howlin, come after four Labour Party members including Pamela Kearns, Noel Tuohy, Mick Duff and Terry O’Brien all called for Mr Howlin to step aside as the party’s leader.

However in an announcement on Saturday, an overwhelming majority within the party dismissed the calls for change and insisted that the party should focus on key issues such as housing, health and education.
