HPSC reports that there’s an “increased Covid activity in Ireland”

Ireland is seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, reports RTE.

The week ending June 2nd had 502 instances, up from 306 cases the week before.

But no ICU admissions or recorded fatalities occurred over the previous week, reports RTE.

The JN.1 strain is presently the main variety, and no new variant of concern has been found.

Increased waves are often observed every three to five months, according to the HPSC.

The final significant Covid-19 waves were seen in December 2023 and January 2024, reports RTE.

Spring and summer waves are typically smaller than winter waves, according to the HPSC.

Speaking on RTÉ’s News at One, Dr Éamonn O’Moore: “The message continues to be to take the offer of vaccines if you’re in a group that’s offered them”, reports RTE.
