HSE are demanding people get the flu and covid jab as soon as they can get to the doctor as over 700 remain in hospital with the flu

The HSE wants more and more poeple to get the flu jab and covid jab as soon as possible.

According to the HSE, the increase in flu cases is at the “upper end” of what it had anticipated, and more than 700 patients are already in hospitals, reports RTE.

The HSE “expected and planned” for the spike in instances, according to a spokeswoman. Hospitals are under more stress during the post-Christmas season since 742 individuals are now ill with the flu.

According to the HSE on Monday, hospital flu cases might reach 800-900 over the last week of the year, with January seeing the highest number, reports RTE.

“Working well” is how Bernard Gloster, the head of HSE, described hospitals and the healthcare system.

The efforts of the personnel in “ensuring efficient patient flow through Emergency Departments” was also commended by him.

“We expect pressure to continue over the coming days and we would urge the public to use alternative healthcare services for treatment such as GP, GP Out of Hours, injury units and pharmacies when appropriate,” Mr Gloster said, reports RTE.

He added: “But if patients are very sick and in an emergency situation, they should of course come to their nearest Emergency Department,” reports RTE.

In order to lower the number of individuals who could become ill, the HSE also reminded people that it is still possible to receive the flu and COVID-19 vaccination.

Some practices have started offering more afternoon GP clinics as of right now. Patients have been requested to verify if their general practitioner is a part of the program.

In order to prevent and manage infections, the HSE also advised people to be aware of any limits on hospital visits resulting from circulating diseases, reports RTE.
