According to Newstalk, Damien McCallion, the HSE National Director of Covid Vaccinations in Ireland has warned that Covid vaccines distributed to pharmacies and vaccination centres only have a 30 day shelf life before they are binned.
He told Newstalk:
“We’re really encouraging people this week to make a late new year’s resolution, come in and get your booster.”
The discussion moved to whether vaccines that were going to expire could be repurposed and given to younger age groups.
McCallion said that he didn’t know the answer to this. He said that this would be a decision for the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) and that they are keeping the matter “under review” but that it is “not on our radar as an immediate action”.
