HSE remains in control of nursing home after serious concerns that residents needed better care

A nursing home remains in control of the Health Service Executive in Kerry following a ruling by Listowel District Court late last week.

According to RTE, residents at the home have tested positive for Covid. Susan Cliff, deputy chief inspector of social services told the court that the HSE team who arrived at the house found what she described as “a centre in chaos”. She said “alarm bells should have been firing off in this centre and it didn’t happen”.

There were serious concerns regarding isolation of Covid residents, medication management and meal times. It was hard to tell whether residents who were taking end-of-life medication were actually getting this medication.

RTE estimates that around 36 people were living in the home which has now been taken into the control of the HSE.
