The HSE have said that those of the age of 70 should get the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines.
Speaking about the decision, the HSE Chief Clinical Officer Dr Colm Henry told RTE News that both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines afford greater protection to those over the age of 70.
The news could potentially be significant as it was initially expected that the AstraZeneca vaccine would be administered to the over 85s beginning later this month.
However it is now believed that 400,000 doses due in the first quarter of this year could be given to younger people.
