An investigation into the death of a neonate at Cavan Hospital yesterday is underway.
The hospital has previously been embroiled in controversy, after four infants lost their lives there in a space of less than three years. Two of the deaths occurred less than two months apart.
Last year, James Reilly said that he would order HIQA to examine maternity services at the facility. However, no such order was given, and no review took place at the time.
In a statement, the HSE has said “Cavan and Monaghan Hospital management would like to offer its deepest sympathy to the family on their tragic loss and hope they will be given the privacy that they need to deal with their grief.”
