Huge increase in domestic violence calls to Gardaí

Garda Síochána data shows an 8% increase in the number of domestic violence calls made in 2023, reports Breaking News.

In 2023, gardaí received 54,000 calls regarding allegations of domestic abuse.

Gardaí encourage anyone who may be experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence or gender-based violence to contact any Garda station and call 999/112 in an emergency, reports Breaking News.

They said collaboration with external partners is expanding to provide immediate responses to high-risk victims of domestic violence.

One of the measures introduced is the Domestic Violence Risk Assessment Tool, which is now in place and used in every Garda district, division and territory across the country.

Detective Chief Superintendent, Garda National Protective Services Bureau, Colm Noonan, said, “An Garda Síochána is fully committed to supporting victims of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence, and investigating and prosecuting offenders,” reports Breaking News.
