There will be no mass influx of undocumented migrants into their small village after their protests were heard loud and clear and won the war.
The direct provision centre planned for a hotel in the Galway village of Oughterard will now not go ahead, as it has emerged that the applicant has withdrawn the tender.
The project to build a provision centre for an unknown number of undocumented migrants at the former Connemara Gateway Hotel had sparked fierce backlash from the local community in recent weeks.
The exact reasons for the withdrawal of the application have not yet been made public but locals don’t care and are said to be utterly delighted with the result.
