The funeral of 13-year-old Lauren O’Brien, who tragically died while participating in a rally at the Cork Autograss Racing Club track in Enniskean, West Cork on May 4th, will take place later today, reports Breaking News.

Lauren, from Knockane, Terelton, Co Cork, was pronounced dead at the scene last Sunday afternoon after her car lost control during a heat and crashed into a barrier.

A requiem mass will be held at St Joseph’s Church in Castletownkenneigh at noon on Friday, followed by burial at Terelton Cemetery. Her family has requested donations to West Cork Rapid Response instead of flowers, reports Breaking News.

Lauren, a former pupil at Coppeen National School in Enniskean, was remembered by school staff who shared that they had “nothing but warm memories of a wonderful girl full of life, determination and positivity.”

At McEgan College in Macroom, where Lauren was in first year, she was described as “a beautiful girl, inside and out, bubbly, fun loving, kind, caring, a loveable rogue, reports Breaking News.

Her parents, Timmy and Therese, previously expressed gratitude to emergency services, the Cork Autograss community, neighbours and friends for their support following the tragedy.

Lauren is survived by her parents, brother Josh, sister Shannon, grandparents Christy, Teresa, Connie, and Ellen, as well as her godparents, extended family and friends, reports Breaking News.

Originally from Castletownkenneigh, the family later moved to Terelton. Lauren was among four junior drivers taking part in a heat when the fatal crash occurred.

Gardaí have launched an investigation, and the scene was preserved for forensic examination to determine the cause of the crash. An inquest will take place at a later date, reports Breaking News.
