The funerals of 17-year-old Kia McCann and 16-year-old Dlava Mohammed were held in County Monaghan and County Dublin, reports RTE.

Friends and classmates of the girls provided honour guards at funerals in both counties.

The teenagers were killed in a road accident near Clones in County Monaghan on Monday night.

They were going to Debs at the time of the accident.

The hearse carrying Dolly’s remains left Clones this morning for Clonskeagh Mosque in Dublin, where she was laid to rest.

The service was conducted by Sheikh Hossain Halawa.

Attendees included Vice-Principal of Largey College Michael Killen, Cavan/Monaghan ETB School Principal Paddy Flood and Monaghan Garda Station Representative Inspector Graham Tolan.

Several students and staff of Larji College were also present, reports RTE.

A coach carrying the teenager’s family and friends followed the procession as it headed south for the 1:30 pm service.

Hundreds of mourners follow the hearse carrying the remains of Kia McCann at Sacred Heart Church in Clones.

Kia McCann and Dalava Mohammed have been described as “soul friends”, reports RTE.

A candle representing Dlava was also lit at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Clony.

Kia will be buried at Mount St Oliver’s Cemetery, reports RTE.

The Taoiseach offered his condolences and sympathies on behalf of the nation to the McCann and Mohammed families, the people of Clone and all those affected by the deaths of the two teenage girls.
