Hundreds of asylum seekers riot, attack police and burn migrant centre and cars in Malta

Malta Today reports that at least 107 asylum seekers have been arrested for their role in a riot in which a migrant holding centre was overrun and set on fire.

Migrants, mostly Sub-Saharan Africans, whom Malta had welcomed after they were transported to the tiny Island by EU navies and NGO’s erupted into animalistic violence after a drunk Nigerian was refused entry to the centre, as this is a violation of the ‘Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers’ rules.

When the man became belligerent police were called who were then attacked by other migrants after they attempted to arrest him.

It is estimated that in total some 300 migrants took part in the riots in which the centre was seized before being badly damaged with some rooms set on fire, five cars were also burnt out during the disturbances.

In recent weeks similar migrant riots have taken place in Greece, one on the Island of Samos saw an entire asylum seeker camp was practically burned to the ground.
