Hurricane Dorian has made landfall in Nova Scotia, Canada, days after carving a path of destruction across the Bahamas, where 43 people are now confirmed dead and no fewer than 13,000 homes and businesses have been destroyed or badly damaged.

So far, around 45,000 premises have lost power in the immediate area of Nova Scotia, and a crane is believed to have collapsed due to storm damage.

The Canadian military will be deployed to help with rescue efforts.
