Hurricane Laura makes landfall in the Louisiana coast, authorities warn of ‘unsurvivable’ storm surges

Local authorities are warning of ‘unsurvivable’ storm surges after Hurricane Laura made landfall on the Louisiana coast earlier today.

Laura measures in the high Category 4 storm, bordering on Category 5.

Forecasters say that the waters from the Gulf of Mexico could rise up to 20ft as they move forward, pushed by the storm’s power.

The weather system is expected to carve a path of utter devastation along its path inland, with many areas likely to be left uninhabitable for months to come.
