The inner fabric of the cadre that is Irish politics loses a stitch or two every now and again, and things that the populace is not meant to know rise to the surface like a dead goldfish.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today been forced to deny that any special ‘understanding’ exists in favor of Independent TD Michael Lowry.
The mounted defence came about because Mr. Lowry recently suggested that he received preferential treatment -an ‘understanding’- in return of his support for the Government.
Aghast at the dead giveaway, Mr. Kenny rose in the Dáil today and said “Let me confirm for you that ye hear one side of the situation here.”
“Deputy Lowry is an independent Deputy for quite a number of years in the House here.
“I’m very… I appreciate the fact that he has supported the Government in here, in terms of his record.
“There are no ‘understandings’ with any Deputy by Fine Gael, or by the Government.
