I wanna dance with somebody: Court hears sleep ‘decimated’ by gay bar blasting Whitney Houston or Celine Dion songs

One of the most well-known gay bar in Dublin has a neighbour who told a judge that the club’s “thumping” party music and blaring Whitney Houston or Celine Dion songs “decimated” his night’s sleep, reports RTE.

Tommy Bergin, who resides with his spouse in an apartment above the well-known Street 66 pub on Parliament Street, has objected to the establishment’s licencing for dancing, singing, and music.

Judge Marie Quirke, who has jurisdiction over public establishments in the city, heard the case at Dublin District Court, reports RTE.

The structure was not suitable for housing residences and a late-night venue together, according to testimony from expert experts, the judge said.

She approved the licence renewals subject to the establishment of a ten-decibel reduction in music volume, reports RTE.
