Govt under massive pressure over decision to move migrants out of shanty town for St Patrick’s Day

The removal of a temporary migrant camp in Dublin city before to St. Patrick’s Day has drawn criticism for the government, reports The Mirror.

The plan to relocate 200 asylum seekers from tents on Mount Street to a different camp close to the Dublin mountains has been derided by activists as a cunning ruse.

The guys, who had been sleeping in tents close to the International Protection Office, were bussed to Saggart and handed tents to erect when five coaches pulled up on Mount Street before nine in the morning, reports The Mirror.

Many, however, quickly abandoned the area—which had already sustained damage from an arson attack—and attempted to return to the city core.

Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore said: “Men being moved from one tent to another. Just this time it’s in the country and away from Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Day parade,” reports The Mirror.
