According to the IMPACT trade union up to 1,200 jobs could be lost at Aer Lingus if the airline is sold to IAG. The union makes the claim that the group has a history of cutting jobs after takeovers.
The announcement comes after the Oireachtas transport committee held an emergency meeting recently to discuss the potential impact of the airline being sold.
Matt Staunton of IMPACT said: “there were numerous job losses when IAG was formed in the first place”.
