The vortex which has caused temperatures to drop as low as -23C in Chicago, causing widespread disruption, it has however created another phenomenon as the world famous Niagara Falls became partially frozen.

Although the phenomenon isn’t completely a rarity, photos taken of the spectacle have amazed many far and wide as the icy formations depicted a scene from Hollywood movie.

However even though the waterfall looks completely frozen, experts have said that water is always constantly following on the falls despite its frosty exterior.

The formation of the icy cascades happen when the airborne water particles freeze in the air surrounding the waterfall.
