
The Independent Ireland election manifesto focusses on cutting government waste and drastically increasing efficiency, reports Breaking News.
Michael Fitzmaurice, a former Independent TD in the DĂ¡il, co-founder Richard O’Donoghue, and leader Michael Collins form the front of Independent Ireland. Ciaran Mullooly, a former RTÉ correspondent, is an MEP for the party.
While recognising the “gap between a city-centric cabinet and the needs of the people of rural Ireland,” the party claims it will strike a balance between the interests of all residents.
On Friday, it unveiled its electoral manifesto, reports Breaking News.
One of its main promises is to “tackle Government waste, radically improve efficiency, and deliver accountability” by establishing a new, independent monitoring committee that was hired from the business sector.
By operating what it refers to as the Department of Efficiency and Reform, it hopes to save €2 billion a year.
Through an initial forensic investigation, the manifesto also projects that it can reform an estimated €7 billion in funding for the NGO sector, reports Breaking News.
The party declared that it will halt “green taxes,” which it considers to be regressive and unfair to middle-class and lower-class people.
Furthermore, it would include anyone making less than €75,000 in the lowest rate tax category. Additionally, it would eliminate the PRSI for people over 65, the USC, and the property tax.
The party is promising to lower the cost of daycare, reports Breaking News.
Along with “securing our borders,” independent Ireland promised to establish special tribunals to handle illegal immigration.
It states that all final appeals and applications for international protection would be handled in six months.
It would terminate planning exemptions for refugee centres and expedite deportation orders, reports Breaking News.
Additionally, the party says it will deal with “profiteering” by private businesses that provide housing for asylum seekers.
According to the report, an independent Ireland would proclaim a housing emergency and provide affordable accommodation for those who are now renting, reports Breaking News.
In addition, the party would lower the VAT on building materials and relax planning regulations to let landowners to construct on their own property.
Regarding health, the party promises to provide accommodations for medical staff, provide medical cards to all cancer patients, and expand services at smaller hospitals in order to shorten waiting lines, reports Breaking News.
