There are strong calls from a current independent TD to conduct an independent inquiry into the dealings conducted by the former Anglo Irish Bank.

The call comes from Independent TD Catherine Murphy who is questioning the sales of some companies by the former bank, Ms Murphy has questioned the legality of the sales after she has received new documents which contain information regarding the sale of IBRC’s company Siteserv to Denis O’Brien’s Millington firm.

Ms Murphy claims that the newly received documents outlines tensions which occurred between IBRC and the Government over how they handled the sale of a majority of their assets. Ms Murphy also claims that there is clear proof within the documents which suggests that there was a variety of reasons for the sudden and unexpected liquidation of IBRC.

Ms Murphy said: “Reading the Minister’s own statement on the night IBRC was wound down essentially it was said that there was only one reason for that,” said independent TD Murphy. “Yet reading the documents in relation to IBRC and that relationship between the Minister, the department and the board of the bank it is very hard not to conclude that that played some role in its premature winding down”.
