A WestJet flight from Toronto to Kingston, Jamaica was forced to turn back and make an emergency landing in the Canadian city after an Instagram “influencer” shouting that he had the coronavirus.

James Potok (28) spoke loudly to a flight attendant during the Caribbean bound flight saying:

“Can I get everybody’s attention please. I just came back from Hunan province, the capital of the coronavirus. I’m not feeling too well. Thank you.”

He later stated that his stunt “was simply a joke” and that he had hoped to go viral with the prank, on social media. Potok performs on Instagram as a musician.

Regardless of his intent the Instagram fame hunter was arrested and charged with mischief following the emergency landing at Toronto, which also resulted in a second flight being cancelled.
