A kind-hearted couple from the Netherlands have dedicated themselves to cheer up the lives of people suffering from terminal illnesses by making their last wishes come true.

According to the Daily Mirror, Kees Veldboer has been working to make their dreams come true with his wife Ineke from their organisation, the Stichting Ambulance Wens, a name which means the Ambulance Wish Foundation.

Kees came up with the idea in his work as an ambulance driver. While he was driving a terminally ill patient to another hospital, he asked the patient where he would like to go when their original journey was delayed. When the patient said he would like to see Rotterdam Harbour for the last time, Kees brought the man there and even brought him on one last sailing trip.

Since then, Kees and Ineke have worked hard to ensure that patients with a terminal diagnosis get to enjoy their last wishes. Kees even has his own ambulance to help in the work of the Foundation so he is able to accommodate patients on stretchers as well as those who are still able to walk.

The Daily Mirror reports how, on one heart-warming occasion, they brought a terminally ill woman from her hospice so she could see her house one last time. Two days after she had this beautiful chance, she died having seen her wish come true.

For the patients they help, Kees and Ineke might not be able to be life-savers but they are certainly life-changers – giving a terminally ill patient a last chance at making a beautiful memory with their family.
