Gardaí and Dublin Bus are investigating after a bus was filmed earlier this week traveling on a pavement and cycle path between Rathfarnham and Terenure in Dublin.

Pictures of the accident were posted on social media.

A Dublin Bus spokesman said it was “under investigation and will be investigated fully”, reported RTE.

A statement from An Garda Síochána states that it “it commenced inquiries into an alleged incident of dangerous driving”, reported RTE.

The incident was raised last night at a Dublin City Traffic and Transport Committee meeting during a debate on a motion on the Road Safety Authority’s “Be Safe, Be Seen Campaign’.

Speaking during the meeting, Fianna Fáil Councillor Keith Connolly said the incident is a problem for the Gardaí.

Speaking to RTÉ News this morning, Connolly said he believed the incident was “very serious and very worrying”.

The minister in charge of international road transport and logistics said that she had seen the video.

Hildegarde Naughton said it was “very concerning” and an investigation into Garda is underway.

She said it was “extremely serious” and shouldn’t have happened.

Ms Naughton said that Dublin Bus will share official footage of the incident with the gardaí.

Ms. Naughton, who oversees the “Safe Routes to School Programme”, said the walking and cycling routes “are the exact pieces of infrastructure… that we need to ensure are safe,” reported RTE.

In the footage, the bus can be seen passing the entrance to Joyce Porto’s house on Rathfarnham Road.

Ms Porto told RTÉ News that she was “terrified” when she saw the video circulating on social media.

“I have two small kids… they are five and seven and normally when we leave the house early in the morning, they run (to the path in front of the house),” she said, reported RTE.

Ms. Porto said she warns her children to be very careful and watch out for the busy street in front of her house, but she hopes the road is at least “a safe place to walk.”
