A dog has been rescued after horrific footage emerged of it being dragged down a street in Birmingham.

The animal’s leash was attached to a disabled scooter in the Erdington area of the city.

In a clip of the accident, the dog struggles to get to his feet due to the speed of the electric vehicle.

As a result, he is painfully dragged across the concrete on all fours.

The woman driving the disabled scooter can be seen looking at the camera before turning her back and continuing down the road.

Someone filming the encounter from a nearby car can be heard yelling, “You are hurting your dog. The dog’s going to die. You are hitting the kerb,” reports Metro.

Fortunately, thanks to a combined effort by West Midlands Police and the RSPCA, the animal was rescued.

An RSPCA spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “A dog who was seen in a video posted online has been seized by police and is now in RSPCA care and being checked over by a vet. Our enquiries are ongoing so we won’t be releasing any further information at this time but we’d like to thank West Midlands Police for assisting with this investigation and helping to find the dog so quickly”, reported Metro.

The clip had caused widespread anger after being shared by the Birmz Is Grime blog on Twitter with the caption: “Who is this person? This dog needs to be found and rescued”, reports Metro.

One person commented: “Has this been reported. It’s horrific,” as told by Metro.

According to Metro, another wrote: “Poor dog. I hope they find the lady driving and take the dog off her.”
