Investigation continues after man dies after assault in north Dublin city

A man in his 50s has died, while two women were hurt during an incident in north Dublin city in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardaí and emergency personnel attended the scene following reports of an assault on Foster Terrace in Ballybough, Dublin 3, just before 1.30am, reports RTE.

A man was found with severe injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.

Two women in their 60s were transported to hospital to receive treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, reports RTE.

Foster Terrace and a nearby private residence have been secured to allow for a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been informed, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination in due course, reports RTE.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been assigned to oversee the inquiry, and an incident room has been set up at Mountjoy Garda Station.

No arrests have been carried out so far, reports RTE.

Investigating Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information related to it to contact them.

They are also requesting that anyone with relevant camera footage, including dashcam recordings from the area between 1am and 1.30am on Saturday 31st January 2026, get in touch, reports RTE.
