Investigation continues after teenager broke into the Dáil chamber in ‘very serious breach’

A teenager has been arrested following a break in at Leinster House on Saturday afternoon.

Gardaí said the “incident of trespass” happened around 4 p.m. when the teenager gained access to campus from the Merrion Street side of the building, reports The Mirror.

Pearse Street Garda station officers arrested a 16-year-old boy who was being held for questioning.

Socialist TD Jennifer Whitmore, a member of the Oireachtas commission which oversees the governance of Leinster House, called the intrusion ‘worrying’ and added: “it’s important that security is examined and any gaps are identified and rectified quickly”, reports The Mirror.

The Seanad’s Cathaoirleach, Senator Jerry Buttimer, described the burglary as “a very serious breach of security that must be investigated”, reports The Mirror.

A spokesman for the Oireachtas House of Representatives said he would not comment on security matters.
