A man has been arrested in Northern Ireland who was due to stand trial three years ago over an assault in County Cork, reports RTE.

The PSNI said the 36-year-old was being held in north Belfast on an international extradition warrant.

He is scheduled to appear at an extradition hearing today, reports RTE.

He was wanted for an attack in Fermoy in August 2020.

A police spokesman said the arrest was another example of cooperation with An Garda Síochána and other authorities.

“Our message is clear that we will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime,” he said, reports RTE.
