A man in his 30s has been arrested in Cork after a van carrying six children rammed three surveillance vehicles. Several people who were in the vehicle at the time were taken to Cork University Hospital for examination. No serious injuries were reported.

Two Garda members also went to Cork University Hospital for medical treatment. The incident took place in the Mahon and Carrs Hill areas of Cork on Wednesday night.

At around 9:45pm., Gardaí signalled a van to stop. He didn’t and crashed into a guard vehicle.

According to RTE, the van stopped shortly after, but when the Gardaí tried to attack the driver, the Gardai vehicle was rammed again.

Two other guard vehicles arrived at the scene and attempted to block the truck, but both vehicles were rammed. Several additional guard units responded and a hold operation ensued.

Gardai used a stinger device on Carrs Hill and the vehicle was immobilized. A man has been arrested and is being held at Bridewell Garda train station.

Significant damage was inflicted to two Guards staff cars, while three other vehicles suffered minor damage with the investigation said to be ongoing.
