An Argentine fan has died after falling from a roof in Buenos Aires, while a five-year-old boy is said to be in a coma after celebrating the national team’s dramatic win at the 2022 World Cup.

According to reports from La Nacion, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health confirmed the 24-year-old man died at Fernández Hospital from a fatal head injury after being hospitalized “after a fall from a height, in the context of the massive festivities that occurred in the City of Buenos Aires,” reports Independent.

He was found unconscious by police officers on the third floor of a parking garage on Monday morning. Police said “he was jumping on the roof, celebrating the triumph of the National Team, until a plate broke and fell” reports Independent.

Argentina’s win sparked huge celebrations across the South American country, but those were marred by the fan’s death in the capital. After the news broke, the young man’s family released a statement setting out their version of events.

The statement explains how he “decided to urinate on the side of the highway passing the guardrail and that’s when he falsely stepped on an old plastic sheet that served as the roof of the restaurant parking lot and fell,” reports Independent.

They added: “he wasn’t drugged, he wasn’t drunk, he just didn’t want to be watched while he urinated. He was a healthy boy, a student and a worker who wanted to go home to have dinner and continue celebrating more calmly,” reports Independent.

La Nacion also reports that a five-year-old boy is in a coma and sustained injuries when a piece of marble fell from a monument in Plaza San Martín, where he was celebrating with his family.

It reports that he was transferred to the Hospital Interzonal Especializado Materno Infantil, where a serious head injury was confirmed, which warranted hospitalization in intensive care and left him in a coma.

A fan jumped onto the bus from a raised bridge and fell onto the raised bridge occupied by Argentine players. A second fan tried to follow but missed the bus and narrowly dodged Messi, who fell backwards into the crowd below.
