An investigation is underway after a prisoner was set on fire inside his cell at Midlands Prison in Portlaoise, on Tuesday.
It is understood the man who was taken to Dublin’s St James’s Hospital for treatment after he sustained serious burn injuries, which occurred in Tuesday evening.
Gardaí say they are currently assisting the Irish Prison Service with their investigation.
