People are being evacuated from the Paris Eiffel Tower due to a fire that has started there, reports The Mirror.
Tourists have been escorted away from the famous building in the French capital, and emergency personnel are on the site and fighting the fire, according to The Mirror.
According to reports, firemen were initially having difficulty reaching the fire’s source, and the Eiffel Tower is temporarily closed while the fire is being put out.
The lift shaft between the tower’s first and first floors is thought to have been the source of the fire. On X, one person has written: “A fire is currently raging at the Eiffel Tower. The monument has just been evacuated. An emergency response company has established a perimeter, but firefighters are unable to access the flames,” reports The Mirror.
Additionally, someone else posted on social media: “The Eiffel Tower is ablaze. The lift shaft between the first and first levels was seen to be on fire. Everyone in the area has been evacuated. The firemen are still on duty. “After Notre Dame, we now have the Eiffel Tower on fire!” said another, reports The Mirror.
The origin of the fire seems to have been identified. Boulevard Voltaire’s journalist wrote: “Around 1,200 people were evacuated. The firefighters have reportedly identified the origin of the flames as overheating of a cable.” He continued: “The fire has been brought under control and is now out. The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheating device near a cable of one of the elevators,” reports The Mirror.
With dense smoke plumes rising into the air in 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral fire continues to haunt Paris. The cathedral, which has become a potent symbol of Paris’ tenacity, held its first Mass this month following its reconstruction.
Almost £1 billion (around €1.2 billion) in donations from around the world, incredible workmanship, and a communal, unwavering will to reconstruct were all factors in Notre Dame’s journey from destruction to resurrection.
There were several obstacles in the way of rehabilitation. Work was halted due to lead pollution, and more delays were caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. Architect Philippe Villeneuve is in charge of the project, which has been praised as a victory of human invention and teamwork. To protect the cathedral’s future, state-of-the-art fire protection measures, such as thermal cameras and a misting system, have been installed, reports The Mirror.
